Team Spotlight: Minni Instructor Katerina

In an effort to familiarize our community with our full team at Minni, we are starting a new blog series highlighting one team member and diving into what makes them unique. From their creative experience and background to their favorite Minni projects, we hope you will read through our ‘minni’ interview.

We are thrilled to introduce you to Katerina, a recent addition to the Minni team, Katerina teaches Minni Stitchers and Sculptors along with Summer Program in Beacon Hill, and supporting Minni School Partnerships at BISB!

But there is more to Katerina than being a Minni Instructor and Assistant, she herself is a fashion and textile designer, establishing her own brand Katerina Annunziato specializing in swimwear and knitwear. We are so grateful to have Katerina on our team, inspiring the next generation of designers, and so appreciate all she does for the Minni community.

Learn more about Katerina below!

What is your role at Minni / how long have you been with Minni?

I have been the instructor for the Minni Stitchers class since January of 2024. The course focuses on hand sewing, machine sewing and pattern making projects. Additionally, I am a studio assistant and instruct weekend workshops.

What is your favorite part of being part of the Minni community, and working with young artists?

I enjoy being surrounded by artists and designers alike and their excitement towards sharing the benefits of an art education with young children. I love the sustainable use of materials at Minni, by providing artists with materials they have readily available encourages students to be inventive. Young makers are intuitive and bold. They don’t hesitate to follow their intuition. I admire that quality.

Can you share your background/intro to art?

I began taking dance, piano, and voice lessons from a very young age. Art practice was always encouraged in my family and that eventually grew into an interest of cultivating more skills to become an artist as a profession and personal vocation. I eventually moved to Chicago where I studied fashion and textile design.

What are your favorite art mediums to work with?

Elastics, wax, silk, found objects, natural and synthetic dyes, mesh, ribbons, tulle, gauze, ballet

Are you working on any projects outside of your Minni work?

In 2020, while living in Latin America I launched my own brand Katerina Annunziato specializing in swimwear and knitwear. The brand has grown organically since then, and I continue to creatively direct, sew, produce and design for the brand in my studio.
