DIY Sidewalk Paint πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ¨

Paint outside and enjoy the sunshine!

There is nothing better than being outside during the summer, but having a craft for your little one(s) to take outside and entertain themselves with can be a huge perk!

This month’s craft is just that! An easy DIY sidewalk paint recipe that comes together in less than 10 minutes, and will have your kiddos drawing outside while you get to kick your feet up.

Choose your favorite bright colors and get to painting!

We’ve included all the steps and materials you’ll need below. Follow along to try it out at home.

Materials:

  • Cups (1 per color, use spill-proof painting cups, or a clean cup from your recycling)

  • Corn starch (1/4 cup per color)

  • Water (1/4 cup per color)

  • Liquid watercolor paint or liquid food coloring

  • Optional: dish soap

  • Spoon

  • Paint brushes (large + not your best brushes)

Let’s get started!

Steps

1. Invite little artists to choose which colors they would like to use for their sidewalk paint.

2. Set up as many cups as colors of paint you would like.

3. Scoop 1/4 cup of corn starch into each cup.

4. Pour 1/4 cup of water into each cup of corn starch.

5. Mix!

6. Drop some liquid watercolor or food coloring in the color of your choice into your cup. By starting with primary colors: red, blue, and yellow, you can also mix secondary or even tertiary colors. Encourage your little artist to mix their favorite colors or even invent a new color! Note: food coloring tends to stain skin for a few days, so if using, we also recommend adding a few drops of dish soap to your paint so it washes off easier.

7. Mix!

8. Bring your cups of paint outside and begin painting! The sidewalk paint will wash away in the next rain.

Enjoy your craft time!
