Artist Spotlight: Juliana Farina of Amherst Soaps

Join us this December for workshops with Juliana Farina! On the nights and weekends, you can find Juliana running her skincare company Amherst Soaps, while her days are spent teaching middle school science! She loves the energy young kids bring to the arts and sciences, considers herself a kid at heart, and feels the best way to open eyes to the world is to be involved in things! She’s dedicated to making artisan skin care goods that are not only fun to make but feel good to use.

On December 3rd, we’ll be making bath bombs for ages 4–10. This workshop starts with a run through of the materials and science behind bath bombs, then students get to make their own! Students will not only get to pick the color of their bath bomb, but pick a fragrance for it as well.

On December 11th, make soap under the supervision of a real scientist! Attending this workshop means your student will get to make their own soaps, complete with add-ins like color, fragrance, and objects! We will demonstrate how to make their soaps, some design ideas, and more!

All of our soap is handmade in small batches, meaning we have great control over our quality. We use only reputable supplies and we source locally whenever possible. Sourcing ingredients locally gives us confidence in their quality, supports our local farmers, and enmeshes us into our community.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

This soapy adventure started in the kitchen of my one bedroom apartment in 2018, as I trialed a new craft for the students in my Home Economics club. The kids loved it, and so did I! Several batches later I found myself in quite the situation: teacher by day, soap queen by night.

What started as a hobby quickly turned into something more: a mission driven business that provides nourishing skin care products that are good for both your skin and the environment.
