Minni Summer Program 2022!

It might be chilly now but we’ve got sunny days to look forward to! This summer Minni is offering 10 weeks of programming designed to get kids using their imaginations to design, explore, and express themselves! In addition to daily art projects, students will explore Boston’s SoWa arts district, visiting galleries, artists’ studios, and design showrooms on daily field trips. Little artists will build their visual vocabularies and learn about the possibilities of art and design. With themes from sustainability to superheroes and processes from painting to slime making we have the creativity covered! Take a look at our newest programs below.

The Minni Summer Program is designed with current health and safety protocols in mind, utilizing our outdoor patio space and limiting each session to 12 students. We are offering ten individually themed weeks, running June 27–September 2, 2021, from 9am–12pm and 1:30-4:30 pm. Lunch + Play, our extended day option from 12–1:30pm, is available.

Places + Spaces

What is “place-making” and why does it matter? Our new Places + Spaces program asks these big questions in the accessible context of children’s favorite buildings and destinations. We’ll explore theories behind the design and construction of playgrounds and parks, towers, and castles, and look closely at our favorite local structures for inspiration and study. Students will apply basic two- and three-dimensional architectural design concepts as they plan and construct their very own favorite new places. A trip to the park will never be the same!

Waste Free Wonders

In this earth-friendly week little artists will create big masterpieces using a wide array of upcycled materials. Students will learn from contemporary artists and designers that utilize reclaimed supplies and sustainable practices. Creative thinking skills will be put to the test as they gather furniture and material samples from neighboring design showrooms to save them from landfills and rethink into something wonderful. From textile sample tapestries to bottle cap mosaics and t-shirt yarn weavings, young upcyclers will create with colorful cast-offs to make something new!

Minni in Motion

What is it about movement and things that GO that holds children’s fascination like no other? This week will offer a broad exploration of motion as students flex their engineering muscles while learning all about moveable machines! Projects will range from kinetic sculptures using homopolar motors to designing their very own paper plane launchers. Drawing, planning, and building skills will all play a part in the fun. Be ready to make things and make them go!
