Collaborative Collage (all ages)

We think collage is one of the most engaging ways to make something beautiful. We have rounded up supplies that are hopefully going to be more available to you and simple tips to make indoor time more fun, creative, and bonding. Collaborate, mix and layer to create a full + complete mixed media masterpiece.

Materials

+ paper or cardboard to collage on

+ construction paper, magazines, tissue paper, cardboard – anything flat to glue and layer!

+ pieces of yarn, pom poms, scrap fabric (optional)

+ flour (yes, flour!)

+ cold water

+ food coloring or any kind of paint

+ paint brush

Steps

1. We love beginning activities with a scavenger hunt. Gather your materials and brainstorm how they can be used!

2. Making your own glue with flour and water is an easy way to keep your little artist fascinated with the art making process. Mix one part flour with one part cold water in a bowl. Add any type of paint or a couple drops of food coloring and mix!

3. Paint your surface with glue and press materials on top to start building your collage. Work together to make a collaborative piece, or draw a line down the middle of your surface and each work on one side to create a diptych or triptych! Remember, collage is all about layering and manipulating materials. Don’t be afraid to get messy!
