Sparkles or pom poms for decoration
Scissors
Glue
Egg cartons (Cut out the middle / between section of the individual egg carton cups, then cut into jagged angles at the bottom for tree shape.)
Tempera paint in spill proof cups (different shades of green or blues)
Paint brushes (large and small)
Paint markers (if you have them)
Letâs get started!
Steps
1. We encourage you to show little artist(s) examples of undecorated egg cartons and completed trees. Invite your little one to brainstorm what type of decorations they might use!
2. Begin by carefully using scissors to trim recycled egg cartons into their desired shape for their trees.
3. Next, invite your little one(s) to color their trees. If they have time to let paint dry, invite them to use tempera paint to add a base color. If participants do not want to use paint, invite them to color their egg carton with oil pastels.
4. Let paint dry (if necessary), then add smaller details, like sparkly snow or tiny pom poms as ornaments. Think outside the box and donât be afraid to brainstorm your own decorations with whatever you have at home! (i.e. cotton balls work great as âsnowâ!)
5. Finally, stick the cork or the recycled marker cap to the bottom / under the egg carton as its trunk. If desired, parents could use hot glue to quickly stick it on. Otherwise regular glue will work as well.
6. if students would like to be able to hang their evergreen tree creations, use ribbon to add a loop to the top. You can secure the ribbon to the top of the tree by threading it through a hole in the top and securing it to a felt circle on the inside.
