DIY Sun Catchers
Sun Catcher Hangings
Follow these simple steps to create a colorful sun catcher! This project is great for all ages and can be adapted to use a variety of art materials.
Materials
Cardstock or thick paper
Contact paper or packing tape
Cellophane or tissue paper
Hole punchers
Yarn or string
Scissors
Optional: craft knife
Steps
1. Cut out the cardstock paper shape you would like to use, then use scissors or ask an adult for help using a craft knife to cut out the inside, making a frame.
2. Stick contact paper to the frame and trim the edges. The center of the frame will now be sticky. If you don’t have contact paper, you can use packing tape instead!
3. Stick cellophane or tissue paper pieces to the contact paper, filling the entire shape. Cellophane and tissue paper are translucent- you can see some light pass through them.
4. Once you have finished sticking on the shapes, put another piece of contact paper or tape pieces on top to seal the suncatcher.
5. Punch a hole and add some string and beads if you would like. Hang in a window and enjoy!
