Baby, you’re a firework! ⚡️

Get festive and use metallic art materials to create your own spinning fireworks! Most of these materials can be found in your recycling. This project is best for ages 4+, but can be adapted for little ones too.

Materials

  • 1 cardboard circle, 3-6” diameter recommended

  • Metallic paint or coloring materials

  • Metallic collage materials (like aluminum foil)

  • Other sparkly fun! (sequins, glitter glue, etc.)

  • Glue stick

  • 1 penny

  • Exacto knife or sharp scissors (with adult supervision)

Let’s get started!

Steps

1. Trace a round object or use a compass to draw a circle on a piece of cardboard and cut it out.

2. Paint or color the background using metallic paint, markers, or crayons. For an extra challenge, try filling the entire surface!

3. Collage metallic paper scraps. You can do this randomly, or create a pattern by repeating different types.

4. Add any extra embellishments, like glitter glue or sequins.

5. Ask an adult to cut a small slit in the middle of the cardboard. Slide a penny into the slit.

6. Spin your spinning top on a hard, flat surface for a festive fireworks display! For extra fun, try doing this at night while shining a flashlight!
