Your Home Studio Guide for At-Home Projects

Fill up your home studio with our favorite materials and keep reading for our secrets to making your art space special!

Materials

Recycled and repurposed materials you may already have:

  • Cardboard – Cardboard creates the perfect painting canvas, printing plate, and can easily be transformed into a skyscraper with a little bit of imagination. Save your boxes and you will have plenty for any art project!

  • Bubble wrap –  Great for stamping, painting and printing

  • Food coloring – Don’t have watercolors on hand? Make your own liquid watercolors with food coloring and water! Maybe you ran out of tempera paint? Mix one part flour, one part salt and one part water with a couple drops of food coloring for some safe, washable paint in a pinch.

  • Wine corks – Save your wine corks for stamping projects!

  • Egg cartons – Egg cartons can be transformed into paint palettes or used for printing.

  • TP Rolls – Yes, even toilet paper rolls can come in handy. Save your TP rolls to use as stamps and sculpture materials.

  • Newspapers + Magazines – Collect and save your newspapers and magazines and use them as collage materials.

Studio Setup

Here’s a few secrets about our signature studio setup.

  1. Purchase some trays to contain messes. Trays are perfect for painting projects and slime making. We even like to organize our art materials on trays to keep the table tidy.

  2. Cover your work surface with paper or a reusable mat. We love Gathre mats for containing even the messiest art projects!

  3. Make sure to have plenty of paper towels or hand wipes nearby for quick cleanup.

  4. Clear a flat surface to place wet paintings to dry.

  5. Hang up some artwork to complete the space! Work with your little one to “curate” a corner in your dining room for quick inspiration for your next art project.
