Spark creativity with colorful fireworks!
Shine bright with your little artist.
Spark up some art this weekend with you and your little one(s). With a few recycled materials and the rest likely in your art bin or in the recycling, this Fourth of July project is colorful and great for all ages! If you’re ready to jump into more at-home fun, check out our blog for more projects.
Materials
+ Black cardstock or construction paper
+ Tempera paint in red, yellow, blue and white
+ Bowls, containers or a tray for paint
+ Paint brushes
+ Toilet paper rolls
+ Bubble wrap
+ Cups of various sizes
+ Tape
Let’s get started!
1. First, create your firework stamps by cutting along the perimeter of one end of a TP roll. This will create a starburst shape! Make multiple stamps for a variety of firework shapes.
2. To make bubble wrap stamps, tape bubble wrap around cups of varying sizes.
3. Time to mix up your paint colors! Its always best to lighten colors with white paint when working on a dark background. Choose your colors and mix in a little bit of white to achieve the desired shade.
4. Choose a stamp and apply a coat of paint with a paintbrush. Gently press on black cardstock or construction paper. Lift to reveal a firework exploding in the night sky!
5. Repeat! Layer the fireworks to experiment with color mixing.
