Camp Minni - Dollhouse + Decor

Dollhouse + Décor kicked off Camp Minni this week, transforming our studio into a little designer’s dream workshop. Campers created their own blueprints and selected color palettes to construct their own perfectly decorated, tiny worlds. Instructor Caroline guided students through the designing process from start to finish – from discussions about color (how about some Tabby Cat Gray paired with pops of California Poppy Flower) and an introductory lesson in patterns to actually constructing the coolest homes on the block.

Highlights from the week include:

+ A fascinating visit to the studio of local artist Mia Cross for a lesson in color. Mia’s bold paintings span multiple mediums and themes, and currently her 140 ft. mural, We the People II, brightens the Rose Kennedy Greenway.

+ A field trip to explore different types of spaces, including art galleries and retail shops.

+ A visit from Susy Pilgrim Waters, whose work is currently displayed in our gallery, for a book reading and a lesson about shapes, texture, and pattern.

+ An excursion to Casa Design furniture showroom, where owner Zhanna guided campers through the space for an interactive journey into the world of furniture design. Campers were inspired to design and construct their own tiny furniture pieces for their dollhouses!

+ A celebratory reception for parents with house tours and lemonade aplenty on the last day of camp.

Every morning campers settled in our cozy nook for some interior design themed reading. Along with our current featured books all about shapes, Caroline brought a stack introducing basic architecture and design concepts. Campers especially enjoyed This is My Dollhouse by Giselle Potter, Windows by Julia Denos, and Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty.
